What is Tragedy of Commons about? How it has and is still affecting us?
Tragedy of commons tries to explain what happens when a large number of people try to utilize limited resources. It could be food, water, or air to contextualize why is this connected to the present world conditions. People tend to put the immediate fulfillment of their need in front of the common good and this explains why this can end in a bad way or in a “tragedy”.
To give an example, the rising need of private transport has led to mass production of vehicles, and these vehicles are leading to the exhaustion of fossil fuels. People who can purchase vehicles wouldn’t think of the long term adverse effects of fossil fuel consumption, over-utilization of fossil fuel, etc. This leads to other long term environmental impacts as well.
